I had a great time hanging out with some really talented artist/ designers at the Paul Mitchell Benefit show. I was here on behalf of VAMPED magazine. I did the lighting for this event, and it was super easy. The venue, Destination 1610 in Santa Monica CA 90404 is a fantastic location, tall wide black canvas walls are the best to work with. You can control the lighting to how you see fit.

My assistant Alex was able to get some snap shots of the event. Enjoy!

I know I was suppossed to blog about our February Sweetest Perfection event some time ago, but as always, we seem to get super busy super fast. So here we go, photos from our event. We had such an amazing time, and we truely appriciate each and ever vendor that was there to help make our event another successful one. The inpiration of course was during the time Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland movie came out. I too,was very much inspired by the James Cameron film, Avatar. I love the bright colors and different textures, and I wanted to incoorporate that into the decor. We pulled it off with the help of our amazing designing team.

While Mars worked with Katie at the Sheraton, I was working at The Hyatt in Huntington beach at another wedding, for another one of Katie's weddings. Katie is so awesome and so sweet. Its no party if Megan and Mark arnt around. I have to say, if it wasnt for Megan being my facebook buddie, I would truly have missed her. Megan and Mark have been our clients for about 2 years. So when the wedding day finally came around, it was too hard to believe that all the planning was coming to an end. I found Megan on Project wedding...or did she find me? Doesnt matter, once we met in person, we knew right away we were going to be a great match. Dont get jealous Mark. lol!!! I contacted Megan a week before her wedding, thinking, poor girl, must be on major stress level trying to get last minute things done. LOL!! Was I wrong. She was busy alright, busy planning her New Years Party! Well anywho, here are some photos I wanted to share with you of their beautiful wedding at The Queen Mary. Megan and Mark had Mars DJ their wedding, and OMG...the wedding party got on the stage to only start stage diving and crowd surfing. Gotta love em!

Forgot to mention, Her dance with her dad was, Walk this Way by Aerosmith. Cute!

I try and promote these beautiful trees this time of year. Its very appropriate. Especially during the winter. The crystal trees are available for rent only. Starting price,is about $80.00 each. This wedding took place at the Embassy Suites in LAX. The bride Beatrice Rustrian is a event coordinator and designer. She designed this event and hired us to put it together. When I say she designed it, she actually did alot of the physical work. Her fiance put the manzanita branches together, with the crystals. He polished them to make them look amazing. I was hired to put the fresh flowers on them. I really liked working with Beatrice. She has amazing taste and great ideas. I have only known Beatrice for a short amount of time. When she called me to introduce herself and give me my first assignment, it was for HER wedding. So of course I was excited! I am really glad to have meet her, worked with her, and continue a relationship with her and her future clients. :)

A beautiful event in a beautiful location. The South Coast Botanical Gardens in Palos Verdes is an great place to have a outdoor wedding ceremony and reception. You have these beautiful garden backdrops. But you must know that you do need to make sure you have enough lighting. The facility does not provide much of it. With this being said, we can do it for you.
This event we did the lighting, lanterns, and pin spots.

When we got a call for Robin Brogan of Di Fiore in Dallas. I was quite surprised. For one, we had never met but are long time myspace friends. So it was great to finally put a voice with the name. Robin is a floral designer in Dallas TX. and is amazing as what she does. We tend to pop up on eachothers myspace profile to see what is new with each other. So for those of you who are getting married in Dallas, I highly recommend Di Fiori. Robin was doing the event for Absolut in Dallas and was asked if she could recommend someone as fabulous as her (awwwww),to take care of the event in Los Angeles. The rest is history. We had a fun setting up for the event in Pier 59 Santa Monica. I love this place. Its literally a open canvas for designers. Here are a few photos of the event.

A new place for men to get pampered

When we first stepped into Charlies we knew right away that this was going to be the new big thing for men in LA. This place is a great mini half hour getaway. Not only are you getting a hair cut, but your in the hands of professional stylist. Which makes me feel, like I might be stepping out of the salon looking like Brad Pitt. I too can dream. When I walked in, I was greeted by Mari Villamor(owner of Charlies) and her amazing staff. I had met Mari at one of my events (collaborated with Jamah) on September 30, 09 in Beverly Hills. Mari told me she had this hair and spa for men, that had comfortable seating, plasma televisions, a bar. I was, like, wait, did you say a bar?!? I had to go. So Nancy and I did. Lets just say, this is my new place to get my hair cut. For only $25.00, you get complete shampoo and massage, which is unheard of on Robertson St. My head felt and smelled minty. Nice! Plus, I was offered a nice cold beer. I had a choice of about 8 different beers. I was in heaven.

Mari has asked us to help design her location for a grand opening party in two weeks. Its going to be quit a party. And because I really want my friends, family and clients to check this place out, I too want to extend this invite to all of you, so that you can take a peek of this great place for men.

We didn't get to spend much time with Anna and Bobby because of them living in Arizona. We did get to share a couple of hours with them while having breakfast and hearing about how they met and fell in love. That's all I needed to know. They are such a great couple, and so much in love. I wish them the best, and I hope to hear from them when they stop in LA sometime.

Ive always had a thing for shabby chic vs. dark goth. I came across a few photos of Japanese Lolitas, and I thought, my goodness, If I can just grab them and let them be the decor, it would be perfect. This is a wedding I cant wait to do. Both Michaela and Garrett are two amazing people. They are the sweetest, carefree couple, with awesome personalities. Michaela (actress) and Garrett (production manager of the hit reality TV show Amazing Race) are always on a tight schedule, but have always made time together to meet with us and talk about the plans and decor for their upcoming wedding in August. I have to start of by saying, I am SOOOO glad we have Maya Myers on the team, who will be photographing the event. I wanted to share with you the engagement shots of Michaela and Garrett. OK, here we go again. The first lighting package was a huge success!! We booked some events with it. But now that its expired, we decided to make a new one. Not exactly the same as the other one, but very similar. Please take advantage of this one. There is a expiration date on this one. We are giving everyone till August 1st to book this package. This package is good for 09 weddings as well as 2010 weddings. Just so you know, we have brides still trying to book our last package which ended weeks ago. But I promise you, whatever package we have going on, is always well worth it!

Yesterdays Cascade bouquet.

I know when some brides think cascade floral bouquets, they right away invision their older sisters bouquet from the late 80s and early 90s. The word cascade sometimes might sound old fashion and out dated, which I have to agree. But do not be afraid, cascade floral bouquets can be very elegant and still look fresh and up to date. I have added a few photos of bouquets from the past and the new cascade bouquets of today.

One of my favorite colors, blue. Blue is a great color for late Spring and early summer. Its a color I also like to use in the winter (with hints of silver) But as far as summer, these colors to me look best outdoors with the surroundings of natures greenery. Hints of blue on white is simple, clean and very beautiful. Theres no need to over use the color. Sometimes brides think the primary must be on everything, linens, flowers, napkins, candles, eyeshadow, LOL!!!

These beautifully draped pillars were designed by Mars himself. They are elegantly draped by soft chiffon fabric and gathered at the top for a nice decorative finish. These elegant and stylish pillars are one of a kind. I made Amy (bride) these beautiful centerpieces of white hydrangeas, white cymbidium orchids, and dendrobium orchids, just to add more glamour to the event. I could have gotton away with a vase and manzanita branches or curly willow and it still would have looked breath taking. These pillars are available in many colors, and start at $25.00 a pillar.

Tall centerpieces were in order, thanks to the space’s high ceilings. Tables alternated between large cylinder vases filled with oncidium and mokara orchids accented with lily grass and brown sunflowers and a trio of cylinder vases with submerged orchids and calla lilies.

Tiffany and Tyler’s guests enjoyed an outdoor cocktail hour during which sangria and margaritas were the signature sips.

The bright yellow color palette even found its way to the candy buffet! Guests scooped candies including jellybeans and other treats into Chinese take-out boxes.

Ivette's bouquet featured yellow and orange blooms, including craspedia, ranunculus, and spray roses.

I don't want to even say much about Daniel Boswell of DV Artistry before I have you check out a wedding he video taped for one of our clients Jennifer Mae Fletke and Chris Watters(who is an amazing and wonderful couple. They are a couple you would love to be friends with.), on April 4th 2009, I must say, No wonder Jennifer and Chris HAD TO HAVE HIM!! Event DV Magazine calls him one of the top 25 videographers IN THE WORLD. He is also know for his same day editing. You get to surprise your guest with a recap video of what was filmed. Your guests get a glimpse and review of the wedding that was taken place only hours earlier. Unbelievable.

Friends and family each grabs a chair and gathers around dance floor area. They sit in suspense as cake is being passed around. They are thinking they are about to see a typical ,photo slide show, or maybe a homemade video montage. Daniel looks at his team giving the sign to start the video. This is what they saw.....

This is soo cute. I'm not a dog person, but if I was, I would so have my dog part of the wedding.

The bride wanted her ceremony clean, simple and elegant. Just a few petals and fabric swagging in white, was perfect.

I love the fact that the bride Ada choose colors that you might think are only appropriate for late summer or fall. She choose to go with a very clean white on white for the reception decor. With hints of burgundy and mango. Her reception was in a local museum, so the art surroundings where the primary decor.

Mars entertained the guest that night.

CNN: She bartered her way to a dream wedding

SANTA MONICA, California (CNN) -- Jennifer Mae Fletke and Chris Watters fell in love after meeting three years ago. But when they got ready to tie the knot, they faced the challenge of an expensive wedding in a shrinking economy.

Jennifer Mae Fletke and Chris Watters were wed this April and they bartered for their celebration.

1 of 3 "The economy is so overwhelming. How are we going to afford this?" Watters remembers saying.

However, his future wife was determined that a bad economy was not going to stop her from her dream wedding.

She decided to trade their skills and time for what they wanted.

Fletke and her future husband bartered the videotaping and editing services of their production company, Major Diamond Productions, for the goods and services they needed for their wedding and reception.

"It literally started with one phone call and then another, and then we put stuff on Craigslist," Fletke says.

They first turned to companies and people whose work they knew from videotaping weddings, because Fletke didn't want to compromise on the quality of the wedding. She found people were amazingly open to the idea of trading services.

Getting a videographer and photographer for the wedding was a bit of a challenge: What service could they trade to someone else in the same business?

Fletke's persistence paid off when she spoke to Daniel Boswell of DV Artistry.

"I called him back and said, 'We can be a shooter at one of your weddings or we can edit some stuff.' He said, 'You know what, I'm always double-booked.' "

In trade for professional photographs of special moments at their wedding, the couple will create a multimedia piece promoting some of the work Maya Meyers has done with at-risk girls. Documenting the girls' images and their stories is a passion of the photographer.

It wasn't nearly as hard for Fletke and Watters to find a wedding planner/event designer.

The event design firm of Flowers on Mars provides wedding coordination, flower arrangements and disc jockeys -- more items the couple needed for their wedding. Company owners Nancy Flores and Mars Resendiz needed assistance in promoting their business.

"It was something we really wanted to do and it costs a lot of money," Resendiz says. iReport: Are you doing anything special to survive economy?

Fletke pitched their skills for a trade. Resendiz gives her credit for her creative thinking.

"To stay on top of the economy, you really have to put yourself out there. You have to have the right tools to promote your company and your services," he said.

For Fletke, the biggest goal was to get the venue of her dreams. She first saw the Aldersgate Retreat and Cultural Center in Pacific Palisades, California, when a friend of hers was considering wedding locations about a year ago. Fletke knew then that it was the place she wanted to have her wedding.

She bargained her way into the retreat and reached a deal to hold her wedding there for about half the facility's usual price. In addition, they also got their out-of-town families and friends a phenomenal deal.

"It's hard for them [our family]. It's $200-$400 a night for a hotel in Santa Monica. We tried to make it convenient for everyone." For a four night stay at the retreat, the charge was $150 per person.

Although Fletke joked about walking down the aisle in jeans and a T-shirt, she knew she needed a wedding dress. With less than a week before her wedding, her luck continued.

The owner of Bridal Elegance was willing to let Fletke borrow a wedding dress from her collection. Fletke walked down the aisle with a wedding dress, a veil and a tiara. She got her "something borrowed" and a dress she describes as "magical" and fit for a princess.

The catering was also a last minute get for Fletke. She found Michael C. Events through some other vendors she successfully negotiated trades with. He put together the menu for the wedding complete with appetizers and the main course. As for the icing on the cake, Fletke bartered for that, too. She negotiated the trade with the owners of Nicely Iced by Chantell and Wildflour Cakes.

Despite the challenges brought on by the economy, Fletke and Watters found a way to have their dream wedding in April for a fraction of the cost.

"I think the big thing is something that I think would have cost about $40,000 has gotten down to probably about $3,000," Watters said.

But one expert in the wedding industry says not every couple will be able to get such deals.

"It's a perk of being in any industry," says Melissa Bauer, spokesperson for TheKnot.com, a wedding planning Web site. She notes that this couple could help the cake baker, the photographer or the venue market themselves, but other brides and grooms may not have skills a vendor could use.

Bauer says a past money-saving trend of having companies sponsor parts of weddings in trade for having their logos displayed "took some legitimacy" from the occasion and the trend didn't last long.

Fletke and Watters warn that anyone considering bartering for their wedding should know that it took a lot of hard work. Negotiating each trade took added time and extra effort.

But for them, it was still well worth it. Bartering opened new doors for them in their business, and in turn, they didn't have to settle for only what they could afford to pay cash for on one of the most important days of their lives.

"No matter what is going on in your life, there's always a solution. You can't be afraid to ask for what you need. You will hear a lot of no's, but you can make anything happen," Fletke said.

I thought I would write a little something about the photos below, then I thought, you know, the photos speak for themselves. When you first take a glance, your like, WOW, this is beautiful!!! Yes they are. This has to be my favorite type of decor, for weddings, parities, showers, and even home decor. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. I sometimes get asked what colors can you use for this type of decor without having to use pink! Hmmm? There are tons of colors you can use to still have this fabulous chic look. Pale peach, lavender, black, light blues, like ice blue, pool, or Tiffany. You can use sage green, or pale lime. I love to use black as a accent color. Other colors you can use are champagne, creams, and ivory. The point is to use whites, or creams as a primary color. At least thats what I like to use. I tend to also use a lot of wood, ceramic, and mirrors for my decor. Pillows are always nice for the lounge areas. Tons of candles, a must. Crystal chandeliers, and tons of floral big blooms, like Peonies, cabbage and garden roses. Peony tulips, renanculas, tulips, dahlias, hydrangeas, and anemones, (white or light pink preferably)

Here is one of my favorite pieces I like to make. The all white clean floral chandlier made of white hydrangeas, white dendrobium orchids and Vandela roses. This piece is rented out for about $200.00. You can have the chandelier and flowers in any color. For example, I will be doing a chandelier in hot pink, with all hot pink flowers for a wedding this May. Im super excited about that one. :)

This chandelier was made for my sisters outdoor babyshower. I will try and post some photos soon. I just really wanted to get this photo up because we have several brides asking about this piece. :)

OK, I had no idea our Platinum Wedding episode aired last night. Fortunatly, my brother in law was fliping through the channels and caught it last night. By the time he told us we had only saw that last 4 minutes of the show. SO we stayed up till 1am for the repeat and got it recorded. :)

It came out super cool, although I look like a little stuffed hen. LOL!! But it came out great, and we are happy.

For those of you who have missed it, you can still catch it tonight and they will still air reruns through this season. Im just not sure the times. But I was told that it will be on tonight at 8pm. Dont worry if you miss it, we will have it on our website soon.

This is a great location to have both your ceremony and reception. The fact that you have multiple rooms to host your event, gives you the room to create a romantic and fun atmosphere. Shaheen married on January 24, 09 had a two day event. Her reception on Sunday January 25Th at the New Port Dunes, was another full day of celebration. We incorporated tons of crystals. From crystal chuppahs, crystal draped tables, to crystal trees. This was a Platinum Wedding of its own.

The crystal chuppah was designed by ours truly, Mars, and starts at $1,500.00. The crystal trees are available in 4ft, (pricing starts at $80.00)and 8ft trees start at $200.00. If your info major bling and plan to have a over the top wedding or quinceanera. this is definitely the way to go!!!! ;)

White wedding at home

Our bride Renee got married in her sisters home in Northridge Ca. They had about 100 guest and they choose to go with the classic all white theme. Which was not only easy to work with, but it was a a challenge to try and not make this October wedding too much on the winter white theme. We set up a simple yet elegant arch for their ceremony. It had white organza draped along the bamboo post. Very light dendro orchids and crystals draped from the arch for a elegant finish. There were lounge style white benches for their wedding party to sit and look pretty during the ceremony.

The floral, I put a variety of different white flowers onto the cocktail tables (which were draped in white satin) that had crystals sprinkled along the table. The pool was surrounded by tall glass cylinders with floating candles. The event ran smoothly with the help of coordinator Brandi Smith of High Society Event planning.

Through out cocktail hour and the reception, everyone mingled and enjoyed the fine catering of 24 carrots. Listening to the loungy and sophisticated club like music, which created a high end club like feel. Everything was absolutely breath taking. Everyone at FLOWERSONMARS had a ball contributing to Renee and Robbies big day.

We want to take the time to thank all our brides for joining us at our January's Winter White theme show case. We had a great turn out and we had fun talking to each and every one of you. We would also like to thank Wenda Evans from More than just weddings, by Wenda, for helping out brides with all their detailed questions when it comes to trying to figure out where and how to start planning your wedding. Janice and Clay, from Janice Trowbridge photography had an amazing display of their professional photography. I know they had some on the spot bookings. There work is incredible. Plus they are so easy to work with. We also had Beth Cirson from White Feathers events and Lynda from Simple and Elegant join us for support, and they both will be our featured guest in our next show. Mars and Ricardo turned the room into a complete Winter Wonderland, with a little bling from my detailed table accessories. For those of you that were not able to show, we thought we would post just a few photos. Of course my little camera does not do justice. Actually it was Wenda's camera I used to take these photos. My camera was in the car, lol. SO thank you Wenda, for letting me borrow it. I know Crystal (our assistant designer ) also had a camera but I don't know if I will ever see those photos. She still has photo in her camera from last Summer that she has not downloaded. lol

So once more everyone here at FOM would like to thank all of you for coming down to meet us. Our next show case will be in March. We decided to skip February because we are doing a show at the Knott's Berry Farm Marriott February 22, 2009. We will have the same display Winter White at the show. Our December show case was a huge success. We want to thank all the brides for visiting us. Also I would like to thank coordinator Wenda Evans from More than just weddings by Wenda for being one of our featured guests. She was very accommodating to our brides and was able to answer questions. Our other featured guest was photographer Maya Myers. Her display of work was the talk of the evening. How important is lighting. I say, very important. I have worked with many brides and every bride that has used lighting, was more different reasons. One bride did not like the decor of her reception venue. Unfortunately it was well in her budget to use it for her wedding. This is what we suggested. We killed the lights completely! We used blue color wash lighting for the walls, to create a winter feel. We focused directly on the centerpieces which were very simple. Tall glass cylinders which we rented to her, added white dendro orchids emerged in water with floating candles. We focused more on the cake table and head table and added some white pin spots. We rented a white gloss dance floor with there names projected on the dance floor with a gobo light. The dance floor, again well lit. The room was very romantic and very elegant. You would never know that the room had mauve wall paper and green carpet.

There are so many things you can do with lighting. Lighting looks just as good outside than it does inside. It can create a romantic, elegant, fun atmosphere for guests.

This is by far one of the best wedding dances I have come across on You Tube. I think I like it because they chose a great song that was very appropriate, and everyone was joining in on the fun and having a great time watching this nice treat given by the bride and groom. Now would I ever do a dance like this? I doubt it, now the only reason is because my husband would not be able to lift me off the ground like that, and seriously now, you know everyone will be expecting that grand finally. :)

These orchid floral pieces are just beautiful!!! If you are not a "floral person" which many brides are not. This is a beautiful idea to use as a centerpiece. Pin spot lighting

These pinspot lights are perfect for centerpieces. If you are going to use these, we recomend you turn the lights out. Add LED up lights around the walls to illuminate the walls for a nice color wash. Elegant lighting is eveything if you want to enhance the reception area.

Rule of thumb, always add at least a secondary color to your floral decor, unless of course you go with the classic all white or ivory look. Then that's totally OK. Even traditional all red bouquets should at least have two different shades of red (like the classy rose, black magic, black Bacarra, Charlene or Charlotte rose... to name a few)for a little contrast, especially for photo purposes. But for now, lets talk about the color orange. This is a very big and popular color this summer, and will last until the beginning of Winter. For summer, I like to see orange with fuscias, yellows, and greens. Fall weddings, I love to add more of a Merlot red type of flower, like burgundy Dahlias, black magic roses and burgundy mini calalilies. I also love to incorporate peach the and vandela, and/or pale pink roses. Another amazing rose that goes great with orange roses, is Leonida. One of my favorite roses to use with orange. Heck..incorporate them all together in your floral, to give it that warm and complete look, perfect for fall.( as shown in the picture below) Of course if you are set on only using orange flowers, try to use at least 3 different shades of orange roses or 3 different types of orange flowers. If you do this, you will see a difference in the centerpiece and appreciate the piece more, and not just see orange, trust me.

When using orange flowers, I like to add a secondary color for the rest of the decor, to enhance the orange. Personally I'm not to crazy about orange on everything. I like to add really bright colors like, yellows, fuscias, lime greens, and Tiffany blue. For the fall, I like, chocolate, golds, champagne, peaches, deep reds, and sage greens.

Centerpiece of the summer

Everyone seems to love this classic, simple, clean centerpiece. Its a two piece which can be detached from the top (so that your guests may take the flowers home, without having to carry the vase.) The vase is rented out, and that is why this beautiful piece can be yours for only$65.00ea. The piece has white hydrangeas with two different color roses. Three of my brides this year went with the light, peaches, pinks and ivory roses. You may choose to have curly willow or white dendro orchids inside the water filled vase. Peonies are awesome!! I just love them. Peonies can be a bit costly, especially if you plan to incorporate them all throughout your floral decor. If you are on a tight budget and cant afford to do so, think about only using them for your bridal bouquet and cake. Think about when you look back at your wedding pics. Those are the areas where you will get the close ups, and your peonies will stand out beautifully. Los Angeles September Wedding Planning Boot Camp
Hello Brides and Grooms to Be,
We look forward to meeting you and helping you with the oh so fun, and overwhelming, wedding planning process. Adam and Eve Wedding Consultants has more that 25 years of wedding planning experience. Some important things to know about us: We love people, we love pretty things, and we love weddings! That is why we are offering this Wedding Planning Boot Camp, to whip you Brides and Grooms in wedding planning shape...gently of course.
Our September meet-up is entitled OMG I'm Getting Married!
We will focus on:
How to Spread the News to Your Family: Formal engagement announcements, What to do about those that may not be so happy about the news?, and Your engagement party.
Your Wedding Budget: Who pays for what?, What to splurge on what to scrimp on, How much should you spend for what.
Choosing your wedding date and venue: What are money saving months, wedding date strategies, which dates to avoid, what to look for in a venue.
Our featured vendors will be our beautiful venue, the City Hill Club, which sits 54 floors in the sky and has the most amazing views from every room...{even the bathroom}, and Flowers on Mars, whose work has been featured on the WE television series Platinum Weddings.
Each attendee will receive a Wedding Planning Boot Camp binder and informational inserts for each of our wedding planning topics.

Her bouquet was a nosegay style of black magic roses tied in a black and white ribbon detailed in swarovski crystals. Vegas Weddings Baby!

We are more than happy to go out to Vegas for your event. If you are from Los Angeles, or any city close to our LAX based office, we can plan your event out here. If you are from Vegas, all planning is via email,and/or phone calls. We would take the trip to Vegas two days before your event to meet you and view the location. Most of the hotels in Vegas we are already familiar with.

Using canopies are great for home events

This event happens to be my parents 35th wedding anniversary dinner party. It was a very intimate event we held ant my sisters home in Los Angeles. We decided to tarp the back yard and have the dinner inside the canopy. We had uplights later in the evening to enhance the decor. We had such a great time, and everyone was loving the decor.

Another great detail was giving each guest table numbers/names. Each guest table were named after different flowers. My parents head table was named Flores, which is our last name and means flowers in Spanish. It was a perfect personalized detail.
